The UNSW Personalised English Language Enhancement (PELE) program is a self-directed English enhancement program open to all Arts and Social Sciences students, including commencing and continuing. This program is especially designed for students who speak English as their second or foreign language.
The PELE program consists of engaging and interactive lectures and tutorials (one hour each on Fridays from Week 3 for 10 weeks in total) to help UNSW students further enhance their English skills for academic and/or other purposes as well as autonomous, independent learning skills, which are essential to achieve academic and professional goals while studying in Australia.
PELE Program Mentors are required to assist students with in-class activities during lecture and tutorial sessions. Mentors help students analyse their own needs of English language enhancement and develop their personal projects. They will also help students solve their problems when they have any by suggesting useful resources or people to contact. They will also work as a team with other mentors and tutors being actively engaged in communication and reflection activities.
Students that have successfully completed the PELE program or MODL5109 Advanced Bilingual Enhancement at School of Humanities and Languages, are eligible to apply for the position of Mentor. Expressions of interest are to be submitted via email.
Comprehensive training covers topics such as:
Semester 1 and 2, Weeks 3-12, approximately 3 hours per week and 20 hours total commitment.
