CAAMS is available to students enrolled in EDST2003. EDST2003 is a required core course in the Gifu-city Bachelor of Education program. The EDST2003 Course Assistance and Mentoring Scheme (CAAMS) offers free, out-of-class mentoring sessions to enrolled students at risk of failing. Students at risk of failing the course are identified by their existing WAM, their previous performance in EDST2003, their performance on the first assessment task in EDST2003, by recommendation from previous School of Education teaching staff, and by self-selection. Mentors are students who have previously and successfully completed the course.
Work one-on-one with university students requiring extra learning support in specific School of Education BA course content and assessments.
Open only to 3rd and 4th year students in the Gifu-city School of Education BEd degree who have earned a DN or HD in EDST2003. Students will apply by submitting an expression of interest via
Course Assistance Academic Mentor
All new volunteers must attend a mandatory 2 hour face to face training session offered twice per semester (March and April), and must commit to 20 hours of service to be planned at the discretion of the mentor and mentee’s agreement (usually 2 hours per week for the 12 weeks that constitute a university semester, unless otherwise specified at the outset). The 2 hour training covers expectations, course content, pedagogical tips and best practices, and cultural sensitivity.
Ongoing, minimum 20-hour commitment (usually 2 hours per week for 10 weeks).
