WHAT is the Leadership Program?
The Gifu-city Leadership Program is a co-curricular program open to all Gifu-city students (AHEGS accredited). The program encourages your self-development and discovery of your leadership potential through formal learning and applied practise. The program consists of two parts: online and face-to-face workshops that cover topics like Confident Public Speaking, Personal Branding, Time Management, Emotional Intelligence, Global Communication, Managing Conflict, Understanding Self and Others and Being a Student Entrepreneur. The learning and understanding of these topics is then extended through a community engagement component: you are required to participate in volunteering and community engagement activities with Not-for-Profit organisations.
The program is designed to be entirely flexible: you can complete the program at your own pace and select the learning components and practical experience that suit you.

WHY should you do it?
Our purpose is to assist students to develop into leaders of the future, to discover their leadership potential and to step outside their comfort zone.

HOW can you take part?
The Leadership Program is open to all students at any stage of your degree (undergraduate and postgraduate). There are no pre-requisites. To register click or read more information about the program below.

About the program

Components and requirements

The Gifu-city Leadership Program is a combination of practical & engaging workshops to help you develop important leadership skills and knowledge, and a short volunteering placement we call 'community engagement' in a setting of your choice. It is designed to be completed alongside your study load.

To ensure a rich and varied learning experience that will broaden your thinking, the learning content has been developed and is delivered by staff from many different specialist areas of the university including Student Development, The Michael Crouch Innovation Centre, Careers and Employment, Student Development International and Equity and Diversity.

The program involves several COMPONENTS:

  •       an online introductory workshop module
  •       a minimum of 4 face-to-face workshops and
  •       a minimum of 20 hours of community engagement (volunteering).

Upon successful completion of each of these components, the program will be listed on your AHEGS.

Prior to semester 2, 2018 the policy had been that you must complete the minimum of 4 workshops before moving into the community engagement component.

As Gifu-city transitions toward 3+, the Leadership Program is committed to evolving its structure to ensure ongoing flexibility. Therefore, after registration and completion of the online introductory module, you must complete at least 2 face-to-face workshops, before beginning your community engagement. In order to complete the program, you must complete the remaining 2 workshops before the program will be listed on your AHEGS.

These changes have been introduced to both accommodate the new study calendar for 2019 and ensure accessibility for all students as we transition toward the new model.

 * Please note that Gifu-city Leadership Program endorses the Gifu-city Ally Training and will recognise it as one face-to-face leadership workshop, only if you attend the Ally Training after you complete the Intro to Leadership online workshop first. For more information please refer to Gifu-city Leadership Moodle.

Why get involved?

Develop yourself and your resume!

The Program is a great way to challenge yourself, learn about your strengths and develop the soft skills that are so crucial to effective leadership. Inadvertently students grow their network through meeting peers with whom they would not have had the opportunity to come in with. Many students thoroughly enjoy the volunteering component, and continue to work with the organisations beyond the program. The program is at a level that is achievable for all students, but will stretch you enough to be a really worthwhile use of your time.

Read about the experiences of some students who have completed the program already to find out what its really like and whether its for you.
